1.) I am curious if Leopold or Stanly could actually be gay. Leopold's hate for women might indicated something although he did sleep with 16 year old, girl prostitutes.
2.) I think some of the questions were not open ended enough. They seemed to only take a short time to discuss and then we'd move on.

First Reading
"Statistics about mass murder are often hard to prove. but if this number turned out to be even half as high, I thought, the Congo would have been one of the major killing grounds of modern times"(3).
This quote sets up what we will read in the rest of the book. It will discuss how the European countries came into the Congo, nearly causing a genocide. It is set up to show the harsh and cruel ways of imperialism. Africans were not being helped by imperialism but were only being abused according to Hochschild. Many Africans lost their live due to the selfishness of imperialist leaders.
Will this book discuss any good that came out of imperialism for Africans? Was there any good?
Is this book to solely demonstrate the negatives and immorality of European imperialists in the Congo?

Thought at the end of Class- September 9
What did you learn?
I learned about imperialism, western expansion and the spread of europian life to other countries through colonization.
What are you curious to learn more about?
I'm curious to learn more about what countries started as main powers and how individually, each country gained their independence.

- What's being discussed in this article? It is a story of how migrants from South and Central America were all kidnapped by an armed gang. Few survived as 72 people were killed for refusing to work for this gang.
- When did the event happen? (Is this breaking news or something that's been analyzed and discussed for a while?) This article was last updated on August 25, 2010. It is breaking news but the problems with drug trafficing and kidnappings are not as they've seemed to be issues for a while. Another grave was found shortly after along with others.
- What questions do you have that would help make this article make more sense to you? What more do you need to learn about to be able to report on this event? It said 58 men and 14 women came and 72 people were killed. If 72/72 people were killed, how are there survivors? How many?
